TMT BAR

TMT stands for Thermo-Mechanically Treated bars, which are a type of steel bar used in construction to provide support and resist tension forces. They were first introduced in 1979 and are known for their strength, durability, and other properties:

  • Strength-TMT bars are made from low-carbon steel and undergo a unique manufacturing process that gives them a tough outer area and a soft inner core. This makes them strong but also flexible, and helps them keep concrete intact and provide stability to the entire structure.
  • Corrosion resistance-TMT bars are designed to resist corrosion, even in harsh environmental conditions.
  • Weldability-TMT bars can be easily joined with other steel components during construction.
  • Bendability- They are used in a wide range of projects, including residential projects, Highrise residential buildings, office / industrial structures, dams, long span bridges and flyovers, large structures such as Malls, Schools, Airports, Hospitals, etc., underground structures, and underwater or marine structures.
  • Grade: TMT bars are graded by their strength and rigidity, with the number in the grade indicating the minimum yield strength and the letters indicating the elongation properties “Fe” stands for ferrous metal. The four most common grades in India are Fe-415, Fe-500, Fe-550, and Fe-600.
  • Fe-600- TMT bars are used in heavy industrial buildings because they are very strong and hardy.
  • Fe-550– TMT bars are used for more challenging projects and can also be used in earthquake-prone areas because of their elongation.
  • Fe-415– TMT bars are used in small-scale construction projects because they are pliable, cost-effective, and can be shaped into many forms. They are often used in residential buildings, low-rise commercial buildings, and infrastructure, FE-415 don’t carry extremely heavy loads.
  • SIZE & LENGTH: TMT bars come in a range of sizes, from 8 mm to 36 mm in diameter. And in standard length of a TMT bar is 12 meters, or 40 feet, but they can also be sold in shorter lengths of 20–35 feet. TMT bars come in a variety of diameters, including 8 mm, 10 mm, 12 mm, 16 mm, 20 mm, 25 mm, 28 mm, and 32 mm.
